written by Thornton Wilder
First produced in 1939, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning American Classic is his most renowned and most frequently performed play.
Our Town follows the citizens of the fictional New England town, Grovers Corner, between 1901 and 1913 through daily life, love and marriage and finally, in Act 3, “I guess you can reckon what that one’s about.”
Through a minimalist metatheatrical style, whereby a stage manager draws our attention to the nature of the play as a theatrical performance, Our Town represents all towns and reminds us of the universality and preciousness of daily life.
