Rodeo is a true American sport, based on the needs and customs of those who settled the great American west. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association is the oldest professional rodeo-sanctioning body in the world. This year’s PRCA/WPRA ProRodeo includes roughstock events, timed events, and women’s barrel racing. Spectators will be amazed and thrilled as the rodeo jumps into action. The crowning of the sparkling, precision-riding, royalty queen and princesses begins the night, followed by the action-packed rodeo events.

Roughstock events include bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding. Roughstock matches a cowboy’s skill and staying power for eight seconds against a bucking horse’s or bull’s determination to remove the rider. If the rider touches the animal with his free hand, he is disqualified.

Timed events include steer wrestling, team roping, and tie-down roping. These events require highly trained horses working in sync with their riders to catch and control cattle. A contestant’s goal is to post the fastest time in their events. Women’s Professional Rodeo Association presents barrel racing, which requires a horse and rider to complete a cloverleaf pattern around three barrels and the fastest time wins.

Participants earn money in PRCA ProRodeo, so they aim to show Garfield County Fair & Rodeo crowds their best skills.
