Laugh your way to fireworks on July 12th at the Mesa County Fair
Carlos Oscar is one of the funniest people I've ever met and he's a genuine stand-up guy. The first time I met Carlos was about a decade ago when our company hired him to perform his comedy act at the Avalon Theatre in Grand Junction. I had been working with several national touring comedians at the time, but there was just something special about Carlos that separated him from the rest. Mainly, it was the level of energy that he put into his show, the hilarious stories about his Latino family, the belly-aching laughter it caused me, and the fact that he did not use one single curse word to make me laugh. That's right, you heard me, not one!
Over the past several years, my family and I have seen Carlos' shows more times than I have time to write about. We saw him at the Shimmer showroom while vacationing in Las Vegas, on a Caribbean cruise, and at a live taping of his most recent DVD special to name a few. Truthfully, my entire family still loves seeing his shows and we can't wait to share his talent with our community once again headlining at this years Mesa County Fair!
Speaking of Las Vegas, it reminds me of one of Carlos Oscar's jokes about his daughter wanting to go to Vegas for her birthday. His story goes something like, "My daughter -- true story -- she's turning six. I asked her, 'Where do you want to go for your birthday?' She said, 'I want to go to Las Vegas.' 'Las Vegas?!' Six years old, that makes sense, cause she likes the big hotels with the pools. She loves the pools, and I'm trying to discourage her. I go, 'No no no, we went when you were four. Remember what you did in the pool? You peed in the pool!' And she goes, 'Shh, Daddy! What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas!'"
Ok, back to the Mesa County Fair. Carlos Oscar will be performing in the grandstands on Tuesday night, July 12th, right before the fireworks, which is almost perfect. You see, Carlos was born on July 4th in Manhattan at Bellevue Hospital and sometimes he'll joke, "What are the odds a Puerto Rican born on the 4th of July in New York City?? I know 2-1." Anyways, when Carlos was growing up, his parents didn't have a lot of money so even though he was born on the 4th of July, they couldn't afford to get him fireworks... How cool is it that so close after his birthday this year, his show (birthday) will be celebrated with a huge fireworks display at the Mesa County Fair!
Whether you've seen his comedy before, or are watching his show for the first time, this is a show you won't want to miss! Carlos will be introducing some brand new material (never seen or heard before) as he prepares to launch a new tour with Pure Comedy this fall.
